Minnesota Freezer Warehouse Company is sponsoring up to three $1,000 scholarships annually in memory of its founder and past chief executive officer, Franklin D. “Duke” Newell, Jr. To qualify:

1. Graduating high school seniors need to have been accepted by an accredited four year college, and / or undergraduates must have completed freshman year. Consideration will also be given to second year students enrolled and working on an Applied Associates of Science, or Associates of Art degree.
2. Applying high school students need to have maintained at least a 2.5 grade point average through out their high school education. Undergraduate applicants must have 2.75 accumulative grade point average. Previously having been a recipient of this scholarship will not preclude a student from submitting a current application, and being considered for an award.
3. Preference will be shown to:
• Family members of current Minnesota Freezer Warehouse
  Co. employees;
• Students who have a career goal as food scientists, food
  laboratory technicians, or in other food / health related
  fields
• Students having need of financial assistance.
4. Three $1,000 scholarships may be awarded with partially being shown students who have residence within the Albert Lea, Austin, and Worthington, Minnesota community areas.
5. Students are expected to supply references attesting to their good moral character, as well as credentials from their high school or college which affirm their qualification to be considered for this award.
6. College departments and high school counselors may also submit names and credentials of qualified students to Minnesota Freezer Warehouse Company, which will consider the students and make the awards.
7. Applications are requested by March 31st, with notification of awards to be made in May.
8. Payment of the award will be made through the financial aid office of the college the endowed students are attending. The awards will be made in equal payments for semesters, or quarters completed. This scholarship is for one (1) year, and will expire in the summer of the year following its being awarded, if not fully used.
