As 2020 begins, we mark the end of our 100th year anniversary as a cold storage warehouse company. We take pride in our history as a family-owned climate-controlled storage provider and our continued dedication to protecting the cold chain and promoting the constant improvement of food safety worldwide.
Since our foundation in 1919, Minnesota Freezer Warehouse Company has worked to provide exceptional quality of temperature-controlled warehouse storage and genuine customer care and support for customers from local small businesses to Fortune 500 companies. As a cold storage warehouse in the Upper Midwest offering global food storage services, MFWC understands the importance of protecting the cold chain and keeping food safety a top priority.
The history of MFWC starts in 1915 when F.D. Newell started offering cold storage services to local customers of De Soto Creamery & Produce Co. With the success the Newell family found in the next 4 years, the company was able to file for a Cold Storage Warehouse License #1 with the Minnesota Department of Agriculture, officially opening for business as a registered cold storage warehouse in 1919.
The company grew and expanded over the years into the warehouse facilities we have today in Albert Lea and Austin, MN. Our cold storage warehouse capabilities are comprehensive, including specialty services such as certified pork storage, blast room freezing, and Union Pacific rail access. Our facilities provide storage for fresh, frozen, and dry food products, pharmaceuticals, and many other goods that require reliable climate-control.
We work with trusted transport carriers that ensure stable conditions during shipment, and partner with TALLYworks for to-the-minute accurate inventory records. We also work with Agility Recovery to maintain consistent climate-control with immediate backup power sources in the face of any outages or other electrical issues.
Our facilities are MNSHARP, USDA, and AIB International certified, and both warehouses are now certified with the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. Our total storage capabilities offer over 5 million cubic feet of storage space with more than 39,000 pallet spaces. Through freight and rail transit, we handle over 150 million pounds of goods each year in dry, refrigerated, and frozen storage.
In this past year, we’ve been able to announce our newest advancement with the development of new warehouse spaces for goods distribution. This new facility will be located with convenient access to major highways including I-35 and I-90 in Albert Lea, MN. With the addition of this new facility, MFWC will be able to increase the speed of global distribution of our customer’s goods with maintained quality of climate-controlled storage and shipping practices.
